Abstract:

The purpose of this paper is to explore the fundamentals of Six Sigma and its connection with industry and academia in efforts to provide a greater understanding on the subject. This paper tries to offer insight by answering two general questions: First, what is Six Sigma? Second, if Six Sigma affects industry and academia, then what are some of the implications? The basic premise and analysis in this study should foster an examination of the fit of Six Sigma in industry and academia. It may promote a re-examination of current curriculum and accrediting principles. Moreover, a possible reassessment of career goals and options for college graduates, academics, and various industry professionals might be warranted as a result of this study
