Abstract:

Considering the point that LATIAN DAM is one of the important drinking water resource of Tehran and it also has a role in preventing the flood, preventing the Dam from completely being full of water, and preserving the quality of water is also of great importance. Therefore the upper basin of the JAJROOD RIVER was selected for studying and modeling of the amount of erosion. Most of the water entering the LATIAN DAM is from JAJROOD (The basic part) and the Hydrometric station of ROODAK is standing over it at the entrance of the Dam. Considering the special aspects of RUSLE'S model, it has been used for measuring the amount of erosion in this basin. The results of modeling show that the degree of erosion in this basin is high because of high gradient and not having enough plants and the good quality of earth. The reduction of plants and pastures because of the high degree of cattle raising and the change of the methods of using this area has increased the erosion potential in the region. The results of the modeling of the degree of erosion in the JAJROOD basin has been estimated to be 1,524,511 tons a year. In order to evaluate the obtained results and the efficiency of the model, these results were compared with the measured amounts of sediment at the entrance of the Dam in 1381 By comparing the amount of sediment, the exact and precise results of the model in ROODAR station (The entrance of JAJROOD) was obtained/estimated/calculated about eighty seven percent/87% The amount of erosion in this area/basin was also estimated considering the ability of using the land in the area and using suitable plant coverage, the modeling and the degree of the erosion reduction. Comparing these results with the present condition of the lands shows 54% reduction in the upper basin of ROODAK. This research shows that by using suitable plant coverage in this area, the amount of soil erosion caused by rain is reduced considerably.
