Abstract:

With regard to bioandicatoric importance of benthic organisms and determination capability of contamination burden of water resources, present one year study was carried out in order to investigate benthic organisms of Diptera and Trichoptera orders quantitatively and qualitatively in upstream and downstream Karaj Mahisara for determination of Karaj Mahisara waste water effect on contamination burden of river downstream. For this purpose, two sampling stations were chosen at one hundred meters up and down Mahisara and upstream station was considered as blank station. Samplings were carried out in year 1384 with intervals of 20-30 days and in each sampling, 6 similar size stone were picked up from the river bottom and obtained specimens transferred to laboratory after fixing and then were investigated from the view point of quality and quantity. In these samplings, Chironomidae and Simulidae family and Liponeura genus from the order Diptera and Hydropsyche and Rhyacophila genus from the order Trichoptera were characterized. Statistical analyses of results showed that there was no significant difference between Mahisara upstream and downstream data in total various sampling dates and in total investigation of species (P<0/05). Present study indicated that Karaj Mahisara waste water did not have significant effect on contamination burden of river downstream.
