Abstract:

The present study has been done in winter 1384 in order to determination of mercury concentration in the tissues of muscle, intestine, kidney and gonad of Chalcalburnus chalcalburnus from Anzali wetland in Gilan province, Iran. The aims of present study were comparison of mercury concentration with international standard levels and also determination of influence of standard length, weight, age and sex on the accumulation of this element in fish tissues. The tissues of muscel, intestine, gonad and kidney were separated from 23 samples. Determination of mercury was done by Advanced Mercury Analyzer, 254, LECo, Standard Method No. D-6722. The mean of mercury concentrations were70.73, 119.71, 158.69 and 189.13 ppb dry weight in muscel, intestine, gonad and kidney, respectively. The results indicated that there was no significant difference between age and mercury values in (p=0.26 for muscle, p=0.15 for intestine, p=0.39 for kidney and p=0.30 for gonad). The same results were found between sex, length and mercury concentration. Meanwhile there were no significant difference between mercury concentration in muscle, kidney and gonad and the variable of weight (p=023 for muscle, p=0.13 for kidney and p=0.72 for gonad). But there was a significant difference between mercury values in intestine and the variable of weight, at confidence level of 95 % (p=0.03). We compared mercury concentration in muscle (0.07 mg/kg) with threshold level WHO, FAO and FDA. Mercury concentration in muscle was lower than that of threshold level WHO (500 ppb), FAO (500 ppb) and FDA (1000 ppb).
