Abstract:

Environmental pollutions regulation have become more attention with respect to the increased knowledge of communities about the irreparable hazards environmental pollutions, resulted from effluents and pollutant discharge in to the nature. In order to obey the environmental regulations, pollutants which could not be removed through biological treatment must be properly controlled. Other methods have been taken into consideration in order to omit the pollutants. Industrial countries have continuously applied photocatalytic processes as one of the solutions. Nanotechnology has opened a wide view to development of photocatalitic industries. In the photocatalytic oxidation processes, pollutant materials are irradiated by ultraviolet ray, in presence of semiconductor catalysts as titania and zinc oxides, the pollutant completely destroyed and converted into H2O and CO2. Highly hydrophobic strong nanostructure of the photocatalysts, have a high ratio of area to volume are considered as one of the vital technologies to control environmental pollutants. This technology could be desirably applied in air, effluent, and water treatment systems.In this article, different photocatalysts and their mechanism for pollutants removal have been presented.
