Abstract:

Effect of municipal effluent was studied on concentration of heavy metals in leaf of Pinus eldarica Medw. trees in south of Tehran. For this purpose two plantation areas irrigated by (i) municipal effluent and (ii) well water were assigned. Four sample plots of 30 m × 30 m were randomly chosen in either of both areas. Near the end of the growing season four trees were selected in each plot to collect the leaves. Concentrations of copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), manganese (Mn), lead (Pb), nickel (Ni), cadmium (Cd), and chromium (Cr) in leaves were determined in laboratory. The results revealed that concentrations of Mn, Zn and Cu were greater in leaves of trees irrigated with municipal effluent than those of the trees irrigated with well water. Concentrations of Pb, Ni, Cd, and Cr were missing in leaves of trees grown with well water and municipal effluent.
