Abstract:

In this study, with goal of investigation of water quality in Gilan Province rivers, 9 water quality parameters were measured in 25 hydrometery stations of Gilan rivers. Then the 25×9 matrix was formed. Cluster analysis and factor analysis were used to determination of important water quality factors and homogenous groups. Data correlation was studied to investigation of relationship between parameters. The result of factor analysis showed that two parameters explained 87.7% of total variance in water quality data set. The varifactors obtained from factor analysis indicate that the parameters responsible for water quality variations are mainly related to Cl and EC with factor load 0.99 and 0.85 respectively. Hierarchical cluster analysis grouped 9 parameters into two clusters, i.e., Na, Cl, Ca, K, SO4, TDS and SAR in first group and EC and Mg in another. The results of this study can be useful in surface water quality management.
