Evaluation of Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) unit for removal of organic mater in Karoon river

Abstract:

Flotaion is caused by the difference of the densities of tow materials,as the result of which the lighter material floats on top of the heavier material.It can be used as a method of separation of tow liquids or a solid and liquid.As a method to be used in water treatment plant, treating water drawn from the Karoon river the efficiency of this system in separation of suspended organic material is tested by a semi-industrial apparatus. Investigating the efficiency of removal of total organic carbon is omitted varies between %13 to %82 , the average standing at %44,as it is seen , the efficiency with wich TOC is omitted is directly related to the dencity of the TOC flowing into the system.As this parameter did not exceed the allowable level during the study, the efficiency of the removal of TOC is taken to be acceptable. Therefore this system is recommended to be used as a complementary process in traetment of high quality water , by removal of part of organic materials including volatile organic materials causing undesirable odor and taste.
