Abstract:

Asbestos is the name used for a group of different fibrous minerals that occur nationally in soil and rocks in some areas. Asbestos is widely applied at roofing and friction products, asbestos cement pipe, packing, gaskets and other products. It is introduced into water trough the dissolution of minerals and ores, from industrial effluents and via atmospheric deposition. Most of the reported asbestos problems in surface water supplies and asbestos cement pipe containing elevated concentration EPA have compiled reports of cases of asbestos in drinking water in countries such as Canada, South Africa, Italy and the United States of America. Inorganic asbestos compound are classified by IARC in group 3(probably carcinogenic to humans) on the basis of sufficient. Evidence for carcinogenicity in humans. EPA has established 7MFL as a provisional guideline value for asbestos. Asbestos can be removed from water using of different method such as coagulation/ filtration, Direct and Diatomite filtration, corrosion control.
