Abstract:

Sedimentation and Corrosion Potential are the major water qualitative indicators that have great influence in maintenance of water health and quality and increase useful age of facilities and piping equipment .The related costs due to the corrosion in city’s drinking water distribution system are high. Sedimentation and Corrosion create problems such as decrease of public health, water quality and piping equipment’s useful age. According to the universal criteria, the sedimentation and corrosion’s control indexes must be determined minimally each 2 years for distribution systems that feed from surface water resources and once for distribution systems that feed from ground water resources and regarding to this point that there have not performed study about this subject in Behshahr drinking’s water and resources, hence the purpose of this research is determination of Sedimentation and Corrosion Potential in Behshahr city’s Drinking Water Distribution System .In this research for determination of Sedimentation and Corrosion Potential of drinking water using from fashionable and major index like as Langelier (saturation) Index , Ryzner ( stability) Index and corrosion index . Samples taken from 9 active wells, 1 spring, 2 reservoirs and 18 locations (sites) in distribution system. For mentioned indexes measuring, the water qualitative parameters such as pH, calcium hardness, alkalinity, temperature and total dissolved solids (TDS) performed upon 105 samples according to Standard Method's providing procedures, from Nov - March year 2005. Results reveal that the means of Langelier Index in wells, spring, reservoirs and distribution system are 0.28, 0.01, 0.2, and 0.13 respectively that imply on balance condition and formation probability of Calcium Carbonate’s lean firm. Also means of Ryzner Index are 6.81, 7.51, 7.04 and 7.12 respectively that imply on relative corrosion of surveyed samples. The comparison of measured Langelier Index and Ryzner Index in wells, spring, reservoirs and distribution system show that corrosion rate in distribution system is higher than reservoirs and resource samples. Hence in order to keep and promotion of citizens healthy, it is necessary to doing stabilization process till eliminate the corrosive properties and reach to favorite condition
