Abstract:

The protection of structures against seepage is an important task in many civil works (i.e. tunnels …). This task is typically addressed with waterproofing layers. This paper presents the application of these types of barriers in the underground constructions for waterproofing tunnel walls. As a solution, geomembranes (e.g., Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) and high density Polyethylene (HDPE)) and Geosynthetic Clay Liners (GCLs) are especially useful for waterproofing tunnel linings. The results of present study indicate that among of these compositions, using of GCLs are the best alternative to minimize permeability on sealing systems reducing seepage.
