Abstract:
Dynamic Economic Dispatch (DED) plays an important role in power system operation, which is a complicated nonlinear constrained optimization problem. It has non-smooth and non-convex characteristic when generation unit valve-point effects are taken into account. This paper proposes a novel modified method to solve DED problem with valve-point effects, by integrating a Modified Differential Evolution (MDE). The proposed method has overcome the usage of large population, which results in lesser computation time. The modified version employs two additional operations, acceleration operation that improves the fitness from one generation to another and migration operation to upgrade the exploration of the search space. The feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed modified method is demonstrated for an application example and the test results are compared with those of other methods
