Abstract:

Increase of residential and commercial tall buildings that placed many people in the small towns caused increasing in the loss and demolitions. One of the initial demands in the design of these structures is to supply life safety performance level with minimum damage after severe earthquakes and about important building for example hospitals, emergency center and police must be supply higher performance levels like occupancy in severe earthquake to have minimum wound after event. The Iranian seismic standard (2800-ver.2) define two hazard level, the service level and design level that second defined as an earthquake with 10% probability of exceedance in 50 years. In “FEMA-356”: the MCE level that is maximum hazard level refers to an earthquake with 2% probability of exceedance in 50 years. In this paper investigate improvement in the behavior of RC. Tall building which designed accordance with 2800 standard in MCE hazard level and retrofitted with steel bracing. The results indicated that these buildings in selected hazard level were collapsed and the life safety performance level has not supply after retrofitting. Therefore this subject is a serious alert in rehabilitation of important building.
