Abstract:

Today It is unavoidable to implement the flood damage reduction methods. These generally include structural and non structural methods. What has a determining role in preferring one or a combination of them is cost/benefit ratio. The rate of flood damage reduction is considered as a benefit in this field. Therefore it is necessary to determine the damage rate for all of methods that can be implemented in flood control. In this paper first the flood damage assessment models are described, then explain an overview of HEC-FDA program, and investigate the results of the study on lower Colorado river finally. This research result that all of these methods only are based on the depth of flood, whiles the velocity is an important factor where the floods are flash. Further, because of complication of economic analysis of the nonstructural methods, they are not taken into account when computing the cost/benefit ratio. Thus it is important to research about how these tow problems can be resolved.
