The Role of Information Technology in Natural Disaster Management

Abstract:

The World wide internet platform is the effective tool for communication; it provides a platform for people across the world to exchange ideas, knowledge and technology. It brings together people with common interest irrespective of their geographical location and the distance separating them. Its effective role is valuable in communication; remote sensing can also help a great deal in planning, exchange and dispatch training of various stages in natural disaster management. The use of remote sensing has an outstanding progress in deferent stages of disaster management. Satellite communication GIS, and internet today has an undeniable role in post disaster management and relief and rescue activities,because of improvement in satellite photography, the evaluation of life losses and damages has been facilitated. This paper discusses about application internet-based remote sensing and GIS, in deferent natural disasters like, flood, earthquake, landslide, drought, tsunami, volcanoes etc, as an effective management instrument and the SWOT analysis (strengths, limitations, opportunities and the risks) of using the internet-based remote sensing for disaster management.
