Water floods and its resulting damages in Khuzestan province

Abstract:

Flood is an phenomenon and the main reason for its occurrence is natural events, but man’s intervention and disturbing the natural balance of drainage basin increase its, and damage rising process of flood occurrence in the country proves this subject. Among the effective agents in increasing flood water during recent years are: changing lands, destructing vegetation and soil, home building in river and severity of rainfall. Khuzestan province which is considered among arid region, is a flood country. The statistics of the province floods and their resulting damages from 1370 to1384 is the sign of increasing flood in this province. In the mentioned statistical period, 200 cases of flood has been reported with the resulting damage as following: 123 man’s death, 145311 livestock’s, 742413 Hectares of agricultural lands and 151062 educational and residential complex. In this comparison, the amplitude of flood occurrences and their resulting damages in Khuzestan has been mentioned.
