Abstract:

In the past decade with distinguish between two important concepts in civil engineering, i.e., performance & Strength structure’s design methods against lateral forces especially earthquake force have been change in earthquake by modifying the structuer’s performance without any changes in the strength of the structure. To structure . to obtaining this goal a new design method named performance – Based Design Methods has been established in the past few years. In this new design method, the performance of structure is defined by performance point that is introducted by objective displacement of control node. By calculating performance point and defining performance level, I.E., I.O or L.S. or C. P., we can identify weak points in the structure. These weak point are plastic hinges and their extension rate in the time of earthquake happened according to the properties of design earthquake, after these steps the weak points in the redesign of structure strengthen and modified . in this paper by using two famous performance – based design method, N2-methods & Capacity Spectrum Method, theree steel frames with 3,6 and 10 story are analysis and designed and then their results are compared with each other . for obtaining the objectives of this paper , a program that was written in MATLAB software and SAP 2000 software are used.
