The Role of Flood Risk Assessment in Flood Management – Case Study:Lavasan

Abstract:

Flooding is probably the number one cause of losses from natural events that affects a lot of properties and life .As flood risk is a function of the flood hazard , the exposed landuses and their vulnerability , the increase in flood losses must be attributed to changes in each of these aspects. The areas with high probability of damage are diagnosed through flood risk assessment. Therefore flood controlling preparation are taken into account then safe roads, for helping operation , and safe places ,for people living , will be identified . Planners must pay attention to flood risk assessment process in flood prone areas during the determination of development direction and site selection for building industry . Flood risk assessment is important for landuse planning and development , flood management and sustainability approaches .In flood prone areas, risk based approach must be taken into account in all levels of planning . This method helps to non structural flood management . Lavasan hazard zonation , vulnerability and flood risk maps were prepared in different return periods and the safe roads and places were identified
