Abstract:

Numerous Parameters and Incomplete knowledge of them in Natural phenomena cause a large range of uncertainties in results of calculations. Fuzzy Logic is one of the theories which is capable in handling the uncertainties, especially in natural phenomena. Each segment of earthquake calculations, including Hazard Assessments, Structural Analysis, and Risk Analysis, consists of unknown amount of uncertainties. The final result of calculations includes a vague amount of uncertainties which reduce the reliability of answers. In this article, the different methods of hazard analysis are introduced and a brief discussion of uncertainties is proposed. Fuzzy Logic theory, and fuzzy engines are introduced and the modeling of fuzzy engines described for both deterministic and probabilistic approaches. The Bam Earthquake is used to investigate the accuracy of results. Comparison of answers of various methods, such as fuzzy model, deterministic and probabilistic approaches, shows a good precision of fuzzy engine results. But the results and accuracy of model, is highly depended to expert opinion.
