Abstract:

Drought is a ecological phenomenon that can not prevent from its occurrence in some world areas and has a significant importance due to degree of intensity , stability, areas extension, life waste , economic loss, social effects and unexceptional. Drought recognition and performance with valid indexes is counted as a first stage in management of this phenomenon. While drought evaluation indexes were different on basis of classification methods and procedures and showed different results in estimating drought intensity. Since, it was necessary to adopt an obtained result from different areas with facts of this area and distinguished the best evaluated indexes. In order to determine suitable method of drought evaluations in southern khorasan province, we have five main indexes about determining meteorological drought. Including: (SPI)1 ,(PNPI)2 , (SIAP)3 , (DPI)4 and (RAI)5 by using of fifty years statistic (1956-2005) Birjands synoptic station were evaluated and calculated as a sample. For evaluating these indexes define six criterions such as ability, efficiency, transparency, proficiency, extendability and dimensionality as an evolution criterion and give a measure to each according to its importance. Then determine a concession of criterion in area and by calculating a product by their respective weights and the sum of the weight scores are arranged in descending order to distinguish the best drought index. The results of this study show that the standard of annual precipitation (SIAP) and rain fall anormaly indexes (RAL) have a higher criterion and percent of normal precipitation index (PNPI) settle in third place. The standardized precipitation (SPI) and the deciles of precipitation (DPI) indexes have settled in ultimate ranks because of weak ability.
