Providing natural disaster database, basic need to risk management (case study: khorasan razavi province)

Abstract:

Natural disaster occurrence in the world is inevitable, also disaster damages related to countries development and investments are increasing. Most of disaster predictions are impossible due to not having enough awareness and just good management with proper readiness which is based on information can lead to decrease the harmful effects of these sudden natural disasters. Therefore in order to collect previous disasters information, to reach easily and convert qualitative data to quantitative ones, sudden natural disaster database proposed and decided to make. Aa many as information about previous disasters of the chosen case study, khorasan province was gathered with sending some special forms and mails to all cities. Microsoft office word, access, media player, paint were used to design the database and collected infomation was saved. This database has ability to show slides, films, maps and also has some expert analysis all in Windows XP. A sample with extra files is available on a CD. Some numeric codes were assigned for quite qualitative data, so the database could calculate sudden natural disaster occurrence probabilities with diffrent severities and return periods. With these information and analyzing the results, managers can consider greater portion and attention to preventive actions or risk management, based on knowledge, in natural disasters.
