Abstract:

This study is carried out to evaluate the earthquake vulnerability of the automotive facilities located in the Marmara Region. The importance of the automotive industry in Turkey and its earthquake risk in the light of the high earthquake hazard of the Marmara Region were discussed. This paper is a summary of the plant visits, literature surveys, questionnaire surveys, interviews with plant managers, construction firms, insurance/reinsurance professionals presented in detail in [Üçer, 2005]. The study encompasses information that can assist engineers who will design structures for the automotive plants, for the facility authorities who want to reduce the future damages due to earthquakes and the risk professionals of insurance or reinsurance firms who assess the earthquake risk of these or similar facilities.
