Abstract:

One of the most important design stages in every mine is the final pit design. It is carried out in the feasibility stage and must be revised during the life of mine for several times due to having new geological data and changes in the economic parameters affecting the design. The initial final pit design of Gol-e-Gohar iron ore mine was done by Grangeze Company and has been the base of long term plans. The design was carried out based on the exploring data and the economic parameters were obtained by comparing with the similar mines. Now the geological data have been complemented and the real economic parameters are easy to be calculated. Therefore by using Whittle software, the updated block model involving the rock type and the grade models, the first topography prepared in the Gemcom software and economic parameters as input data to the Whittle, the final optimum pit was obtained. The results show that the final pit is a pit with 175 million tones of ore, whereas in the initial final pit there is only 138 million tones of ore. It means that there is still 47 million tones of mineble ore. In the case of selecting the optimum pit on the base of maximum NPV, a pit with 174 million tones is the final pit. Finally with some production limitations, a production scheduling was obtained.
