Abstract:

Almost all of surface blasting in Iran have done with detonating cord and electrical cap. NONEL system is another advanced method that can be used in the surface blasting, but there is not any history of usage of NONEL in Iran. Gotvand dam and H.E.P.P. is a big dam construction activity that is happening in the south west of Iran. In this project, rock fill material of dam body mostly is supplied from a surface mine. Regarding to the importance of blasting operation in this mine, for selecting optimum method, it is decided to try the use of NONEL system for surface blasting. Therefore some blast experiments were planned to carry out in this mine with three different methods (electrical Cap, detonating cord and NONEL system). In a long period of time, in each blast, important parameters such as fly rock, fragmentation, back break, remained toe, specific charge have recorded. By comparing these parameters, advantages and disadvantages of each method have observed. Finally the cost of blasting in each method was estimated and compared with another method. This paper describes this study and its final results.
