Abstract:

One of the most important aspects of open pit planning is the slope stability analysis. Selection of a suitable slope is the most important part of mine planning, because wrong planning of the final slope results in a lot of dangerous and economic loss that occurs after wall failures. In the design of final pit walls, usually two types of loadings should be considered. They are static and dynamic loads. Dynamic loads such as earthquake and blasting could damage the pit walls. Therefore calculation of these loads and their effects on the slope stability is a major concern in mine design. In the Sarcheshmeh copper mine located south-west of kerman, Iran, that blasting operation are performed every day, every blast produces very strong vibration waves and shakes the final walls of the pit. In this research, the ground vibrations were measured from 39 blasts in 32 stations using instantly seismograph units (Mini Mate, Blast Mate), within a three months time period. After vibration analysis, the relationship between peak particle velocity (or acceleration) and scaled distance was determined. Determined particle velocity ranged from 0.5 to 77mm/sec for distances of 2850 to 130 meters. Zero crossing frequency was calculated to be 17.5Hz and the dominant frequency was calculated as 5Hz. The calculated frequency range of vibration was between 0 to 80Hz.
