Abstract:

Se Chahun Iron Ore Mine, Anomaly XI, with a mineable reserve about 94 million tones, two pit with depth of 250 and 330 meters and a mining operating rate about 11 million tones per year, is one of the biggest open pits in Iran. Water seepage during primary mining was observed. For the first time in Iran, in this mine as a mine dewatering approach and accordingly reducti on of blasting costs and slope stability and etc, using cut off wall or grout curtain method was investigated. Cut off wall or grout curtain method around open pit mines is one of the water control alternatives. In this paper, prefeasibility studies of using cut off wall for Se Chahun Iron Ore Mine is presented. Primary investigation consisting engineering geology and hydrogeology map preparing, geophysics studies and site tests have done for designing cut off wall in this mine. Core drilling, Lefranc and Lugeon tests in drilled boreholes are the most important operations for achieving hydrogeological parameters and other rock mass parameters. A model was developed by primary data to design an appropriate cut off wall, studies must be continued.
