Abstract:

This paper presents the results of an experimental study about effects of the shape of jet section on characteristics of downstream local scour. Water jet discharging from circular, square and rectangular pipes , by the heights 35 , 65 and 95 cm on silicious bed with d50 equal 1.27 mm , with the tailwater depths of 6 , 12 and 18 cm , during 316 minutes , were modelled. Various characteristics of scour hole and its downstream sediments mound are measured and analized. It was found that characteristics of scour depend on erosion parameter F0/(Hc/RH) and tailwater parameter Tw/RH. Also Considered that the shape of jet section affects downstream scour properties . characteristics of local scour due to square and rectangular jet sections depart from circular jet section , on the average from 5 to 26%. Rate the average of varience percent in rectangular pipe is considerable.
