A report from Flushing for sediment removal from Sefid Rud reservoir during 20 years

Abstract:

The main purpuse of Sefid Rud Project have been Sefid Rud river flows regulation for irrigation of Gilan Plain. The inferior purposes of project have included the flood control and hydroelectric generation. The water of Sefid Rud includes of a lot of sediment and this sediment causes great decrease of reservoir capacity. In 1980 about 40 percent of reservoir capacity have been filled; that have been caused some problems in water supply of Gilan Plain and intrance suspense sediments in powerhouse water channels erosion of spiral valves and turbine vanes.After primary investigation the solution of problem have been distinguished in change of operation curve; and finally in storage Recovery during 10 years (1980-1991) more than 200 million m3 of old deposited sediments have been discharged. In this report the most important technical and operational detailes and documents of Sefid Rud discharging is presented.
