Abstract:

Physical and mathematic models are usually used to estimate the river reaction against any perturbation inside river. Using of mathematic models in different aspects of river engineering needs full understanding flow properties in non-straight streams. In this research, a laboratory model of 3.5m radius of center line curvature, 1m width and 180-degree angle, had been constructed. Using an Acustic Doppler Velocimeter (ADV) the longitudinal flow velocity for the discharge of 37.5 lps. had been measured to compare the ability several models of bend flow; e.g. Rozovskii (1961), Kikkawa et al (1976), Johannesson and Parker (1989) and Bridge (1992). It is found that the model of Johannesson and Parker (1989) had better agreement to predict the longitudinal velocity in a bend with rigid boundaries.
