Abstract:

Suitable design of channels and optimization of river cross sections are very important in river morphology. The regime theory provides the possibility of empirical and the semi-empirical investigations of stable channels design in which the erosion and sediment transport are in equilibrium. Using statistical multiple regression analysis three equations are presented for estimating hydraulic geometry of stable channel under nonuniform flow conditions. Data sets in this study were measured in 4 selected reaches for a distance of 20 Km along Kaj river. This data were included 19 cross sections and 95 velocity profiles and sediment grain size characteristics. Results indicate that suggested equations are suitable for estimating flow depth but are not suitable for estimating width and bed slope. More researches are required for good estimating of width and bed slope of stable channel.
