Abstract:

Spur dikes are usually used to protect the side banks from being broken by the very fast flow of the river. Or they are used to face the direction of flow, for instance, to the center of the flow. In this research, using a 3D computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model(Fluent), the effect of turbulence flow pattern around spur dike in a river bend has been investigated. The 90 degree mild curved channel (R/b=3) of Tarbiat Modarres hydraulic lab. is used for this study and the Numerical model is verified using experimental results of this flume. In this research the k-ω model have been used for turbulence modeling and this model could predicate various of velocity profiles in different sections in bend channel. The Important obtained result from this case is velocity profiles, vortex dimensions around spur dike, 3D flow pattern.
