Abstract:

The Gachsaran formation is the most important geological formation that affects Khuzestan,s province water quality because of special characteristics of its lithology, by two ways. Once runoff water is affected by this lithology and again river flow is affected by brine springs whiche flow through this formation. To know the effect of Gachsaran formation on water quality of the Karun River, the water quantity and quality were evaluated for a period of 30 years from Gotvand and Molasani stations. Finally, the results of mentioned stations were compared to analyzed data from Bamdej station which is placed on Dez River. Results showed that Karun river water salinity increases during flooding seasons affected by Gachsaran formation.
