A QPSO Based State Feedback Controller for STATIC COMPENSATOR

Abstract:
This paper deals with design and evaluation of a state feedback controller for STATCOM installed in a single-machine infinite-bus power system. The design problem of state feedback damping controller is formulated as an optimization problem according with the time domain based objective function which is solved by a Quantum Particle Swarm Optimization (QPSO) technique that has fewer parameters and stronger search capability than the classical particle swarm optimization (CPSO), as well as is easy to implement. The effectiveness of the proposed controller is demonstrated through nonlinear time-domain simulation studies. The results analysis reveals that the designed QPSO based STATCOM damping controller has an excellent capability in damping low frequency oscillations in comparison with designed classical PSO based STATCOM controllers
