Studying the Effect of Earthquakes on Tunnels

Abstract:

One of the natural disasters that man have dealt with it for a long time, is earthquake. The mortal effects of this phenomenon on the earth and catastrophes that happens due to it, make scientists and researchers to study more on this subject and for this reason many researches and studies have been made on the effect of earthquakes on the ground. But among these studies, there has been less attention to the structures under ground. In this paper, the characteristics of earthquake that effect more on tunnels in the various conditions and the way they effect, are discussed and at the end some cases of this study are presented.
