Abstract:

Among the various models of tunnel lining analyses the convergence-proximity is one of the most useful methods . Regardless of simplicity, the method properly visualizes the soil structure interaction. In addition, soil characteristics , lining stiffness and the delay in fixing the lining will be simply observed . The most serious limitation of the method is its application for noncircular cross-sections due to the assumption of circular cross-section is its basic closed-form solution , where the usage of numerical models of any individual shape is unavailable . With a little care in closed-form solution of zero pressure state convergency , this solution can be transferred to a numerical integral , where , the circular cross-section limitation will be liminated . and the results can be extended to suitable geometric shape . In addition, the assumption uniform pressure around the excavation region can be modified , which will increases the validity of the method . The algorithm is presented as well as the range of validity of the method
