Abstract:

Ground subsidence and settlement is an important issue in almost all urban underground excavations and experts have developed several approaches for control and monitoring of ground settlements depending on the excavation and construction methods. Ground settlements caused by tunnel excavation on 2nd line of Tehran Metro and its effect on surrounding area, structures, and buildings will be discussed in this paper. This includes the review of the methodologies and experimental measurements and results from similar projects in other major urban subway developments in large cities around the world. Also, methods of measurement of ground subsidence caused by several sections of Tehran Metro 2nd line and the results are discussed. The results of monitoring to date show that the maximum settlement along the alignment on the surface is about 4 mm with falls within the acceptable range defined by the design engineers.
