Abstract:

Qeshm Free Area has decided to build a connection passage for its requirements with a constant pass between Mainland (Iran) and Qeshm Island to reach its predetermined purposes. This road will be made by bridge or tunnel. There fore, Basic Design of Persian Gulf Tunnel in section of this Zone with 2500 m length that is shortest pass between two sea-shore of Pohl and Loft harbours has been studied. In this part of studies, with attention to utilization requirements with roadway transportation with two lanes, four alternatives with 11 , 12 m diameters in two 2 , 4 percent gradients with respectively 6250 and 4000 m length have been investigated. As the traffic of vehicles throgh tunnel is resulted to spread gas pollutants such as Carbon Monoxide, Nitrogen Dioxide and Smoke, making use of mechanical ventilation in tunnel is necessary. Based on permissive limits of gas pollutants, Volumes of requested air according to different standards of countries in normal traffic, obstruction of a road, densely conditions for tunnels with 2 , 4% gradients are obtained respectively 670 and 530 m3/s for reducing smoke concentration and increasing of visibility, have been considered as a limited condition. From different ventilation systems, transverse method is selected as a suitable and safe method with attention to dominant condition for Persian Gulf Tunnel. According to difference between cross sections of intake and exhaust air channels, its effect on loss of pressure in passage is observed and in case of smaller diameter, we need higher fan power and also during exploitation more energy is essential. For these reasons, we can increase diameter of tunnel with considering other factors such as possibility for excavation of larger sections to decrease the required power fans.
