Abstract:

Amongst all factors affecting landing and take-off related aircraft accidents at and in the vicinity of airports, the significance of airframe hours seems not to be considered. Because of wide differences between the airframe hours of aircrafts in use worldwide, having risk assessment models involving this factor can be useful. This article, examining the various factors affecting take-off and landing related accidents involving airframe hours, suggests a new approach on risk assessment with respect to the special airport conditions, whether infrastructural or operational specifications. In addition, the current study, considers predominant types of accidents and their relative risk factors due to various categories of aircraft with distinct maximum take-off weights which can be useful for airport safety authorities in addition to aviation experts. In this section, the effect significance of crews' age, as a new involved factor has been considered. It can be helpful to have a more realistic accident risk assessment according to in place conditions, considering the aircraft involved, prioritizing risk mitigation measures and a more effective aerodrome design ASAs management and land use planning ASAs.
