Abstract:

The performance of crystalline silicon solar cells with various periodic surface texture patterns on the front contact investigated in this study. One and two dimensional gratings have been used as surface textures to compare with the planer surface. The current-voltage characteristics have been measured for performance analysis. Diffraction and refraction of the incident beam inside the silicon bulk material is supposed to increase the absorption. By using one and two dimensional surface texturing, the active area as well as the p-n junction area have been extended, which eventually increase the probability of light absorption and thus contribute to the short-circuit current density as well as the conversion efficiency of the solar cells. The best short circuit current densities of 12.03 and 11.13mA/cm2 have been achieved for 2D and 1D texture structures, respectively.
