Abstract:
Voltage disturbances especially voltage sags can cause significant problems and losses for electricity users. Dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) is a series compensator device that can protect sensitive loads from grid side disturbances. To do so, in this paper a DVR based-on 3phase-to-3phase matrix converter (MC) topology is proposed. In the modeling of MC the switching and conduction losses of the converter are taken into account using a novel precise technique. The effects of the MC losses on the operation of the DVR are analyzed using the PSCAD/EMTDC software.
