Abstract:

Sea level change is a recent interest of study because of its sensitivity to climate change. Rising mean sea level, is an indicator of global climate change. A large part of the sea level rise can be accounted for in terms of the thermal expansioil of the upper layers of the ocean. Global warming due to increasing atmospheric C02 or other causes will both increase temperature and melt ice sheets and these effects will increase the ocean's volume and lead to sea level rise. The contour maps of monthly sea level due to thermal expansion was calculated from the temperature profile. For comparison purposes, with the observations, we have computed the predicted thermal expansion of the ocean for some stations. Sea level is even a better measure of heat content.
