Abstract:

In most natural resources and agricultural studies, information on the spatial variation of climate paremeters is necessary . Rainfall is one of these parameters , for the estimation of which there are several methods out of which the geostatical methods were accepted to be simple, fast, and powerful. These methods are used in different disciplines to explain spatial ariation of the parameter. Owing to the large scatter of meteorological stations and significant variation of rainfall in arid and semi-arid region, the accuracy in the application of rhese methods in estimation of rainfall can be quite usehl. In this study, three methods were s~aluated to estimate monthly rainfall. These methods consist of Thin Plate Smoothing Splines (TPSS), Weighted Moving Average (WMA) and Kriging. Cross Validation technique -sed for comparison of the above mentioned methods. Based on the results obtained in this mdy, regression coefficients between elevation and monthly rainfall was smaller than 0.5 for flat using elevation do not affect on result accuracy. Variography analysis shows good spatial correlation for monthly rainfall in these regions. The TPSS method with power of 2 was gnized as the most precise methods in estimating monthly rainfall. The Kriging method is ;so ranked as the second method in estimating rainfall in this study.
