Abstract:

Today, drought is a common problem in most of the countries in the world. It is acting differently compare to flood, storm, earthquake, etc. It effects vast regions for months or years. On the other hand, the unclear definition of drought makes it a complex phenomenon to analyze. Drought is started with deficiency of precipitation over an extended period of time, usually for a season or more. Therefore, rainfall is usually used as the main parameter in drought definition and characterization. There are several indices that measure how much precipitation for a given period of time has deviated from historically established norms. Some indices are better suited than others for certain uses. In this research the Standard Index of Annual Precipitation (SIAP) was used in Maroon watershed. All rain gauge stations in the watershed, which had enough records, were used to calculate indices for each station. Based on the results, wet, normal and dry years have been determined. The spatial distribution of indices in the watershed was obtained using Gis and geostatisical method.
