The Survey of Water Quality in Tonkabon River by Using Water Quality Index

Abstract:

Tonkabon River is one of the important rivers in west part of Mazandaran province. This river is the supplier of water for cultivation and irrigation of paddy farm and oranges nardens in Tonkabon regions. Two main branches (Dohezar and and Sehezar) are suitable site for migration of commercial species such as salmonidae. Totally, five stations ware selected in up and downstream for indentifying Water Quality Index (WQI). In this river, eight parameters were measured by standard method (1989). By rating curve and table of WQI, the quality Index of each parameter were determined Finally, the different stations were classified. As a result, the ranges of annual quality index were 1017. 8-1058.5 at different stations. The maximum quality were related to station No.4 (Cashkoo) and minimum value belong to station No. 1 (Sehezar). As a conclusion, according to the standard of Water Quality Index (WQI), this river !us good water quality. The water classification table were also showed and most of stations sere in second class (11) which begin serious attack by Impact of environmental pollution due m city and village sewerage.
