Abstract:

Due to the shortage of water sources and its critical consequences the necessity of water recovery is felt more. Mineral processing plants are generally water consuming in which their waste-water can be recycled through a simple process. The most common technique to recycle is water thickening. Thickeners are built to concentrate the solid percent of pulp and clarify the overflow water. In this research two approaches are employed for the design of thickeners due to their importance role in the mining industry. First Coe and Clevenger method was analyzed and then Fitch and Talmage method was evaluated. In the condition in which there are limited in settling of solids is used from continues counter current decantation. In this paper the method of calculating the optimum thickener regarding economic factors was evaluated. At the end we did a case study of thickener designing for Mansour Abad concentration plant. The thickener's area and depth was estimated to be 4.7 m2 and 1.80 Plus-Minus 0.20 m.
