Designing safety and health educational programs for Iranian mining industry

Abstract:

Safety is a challenging domain in different industries. In mining, due to its unique nature, safety plays a greater role. The prerequisite for having a safe workplace is trained manpower. In Iran only few safety and health related courses are offered in mining education programs. This paper presents the result of a research project on the status of health and safety education in Iranian mining industry. It also presents degree courses in mine safety, designed for ASc, BSc and MSc levels. It also presents some suggestions for retraining of those who are incharge of safety duties in Iranian mines.
