Survey of the competitiveness of Iran’s Petrochemical Industries in the Threshold of Joining WTO: selected company

One of the specific aspects our time is the existence of World Trade Organization as a important international center. This organization regulates the commercial laws among the countries, and tries to provide a suitable atmosphere for the trade by eliminating the subsidies using protective policies and making a better condition of competition. In order to have a better competitive condition of trade, the economical sections of countries should move towards the production of goods which have the comparative advantages. In the present condition, no country has advantage in every field, so in order to analyze the economical potential of Iran, we have to recognize those field which have comparative advantage in Iran. In this study, the competitive capability, comparative advantage and protective polices of Arak Petrochemical Company is analyzed by using Policy Analysis Matrix. (PAM method). The calculations show that by ignoring the cost of opportunity capital, the company has the capacity of competition in domestic markets. But according to the method of DRC this complex has no comparative advantage. The index of cost-social benefit shows that the company by joining to Word Trade Organization has no chance of competing with it’s opponents. The study of protective coefficients shows the subsidies are paid for the first materials. JEL Classification : C43, C81, F14
