Effects of Water Ions Contents on Quality of Bituminous Emulsions in Industrial Applications

Bituminous emulsions have many applications in different industries, such as, road pavement, roofing, and sealing. But, there are some parameters that control its stability. Ion content of water is one of most important parameters. In laboratory, the distillated water is used to produce bituminous emulsions. This water has few ions and this parameter has no effects on emulsion, but ion contents of water have an important effect on stability of emulsion in industrial applications. This parameter can increase or decrease the stability. In this research, the effects of ion contents of two different tap waters have been studied on stability of anionic bituminous emulsion. The base of bituminous was Asmari Ahwaz Crude Oil. The anionic bituminous emulsions were produced by different mixture of sodium soap of Vinsol Resin, Arkopal N-60, Bentonite and tap water as oil in water emulsions.
