Synthesis of some novel 8-mercaptocaffeine derivatives as potentialchemotherapeutic agents

The one-pot synthesis of some novel 8-mercaptocaffeine derivatives as potential chemotherapeutic agents has been described. In this synthesis, the reaction between a variety of alkyl bromides with thiourea and the subsequent addition of sodium hydroxide to the reaction mixture affords the corresponding thiol derivatives. The attained thiol adducts were then treated with 8-bromocaffeine to synthesize the target molecules in good to excellent yields.
