چکیده مقاله:

In this study, the effects of temperature on rock samples are investigated. Also, the influences of thermal treatment on tensile strength of stony samples; an important index representing mechanical characteristics of rocks, are analyzed. This research focuses on experimental approaches concerning effects of temperature and thermal treatment on stony samples’ tensile strength. These influences can be observed in wide thermal ranges; as the samples are preheated in the laboratory’s ambient temperature up to 150, 250, 350, 550 and 750 degrees in centigrade scale. The mentioned thermal treatments have been applied to the samples using electrical furnaces, with a capacity of about 1200 degrees in centigrade scale. After exertion of the thermal treatment, the samples are left to slowly reach to the ambient temperature, and that is when the Brazilian test is applied. The obtained results show that an increase in the samples’ being preheated leads to a reduction in their tensile strength; as in the temperature of 051 degrees in centigrade scale, samples showed much lower tensile strength, compared to those in the ambient temperature.
